If you have an existing project with a Git repository and want to move it to Champion, you’re in luck! Champion makes it easy to bring your existing project into our version control system while keeping all your commit history and LFS (Large File Storage) intact.

Steps to Import an Existing Project

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Will I lose my Git history when importing a project into Champion?

No, Champion preserves your entire Git history, including commits, branches, and tags. You’ll be able to view and manage your project’s history as you normally would with any Git client.

Q: What about large files?

Champion offers enhanced support for Git LFS (Large File Storage). If your project uses LFS for large files, Champion reviews your .gitignore during the import process and add them to its .lakefs.yaml.

Q: Can I use my existing Git tools after moving to Champion?

Yes, you can still use standard Git commands and workflows. Champion is fully compatible with Git clients, so you’re free to use your preferred tools alongside Champion.

Q: Does Champion support enterprise-level data storage?

Yes, for enterprises that prefer to store their data on their own servers, Champion offers an enterprise license and can work with your IT team to install Champion on your infrastructure.
